Atlanta's 3-4 hours from Snowbird. Chattanooga is closer but I don't know
about flights in or out of there.

Asheville is 2 hours east of Fontana Lake, Santeetlah Lake and Snowbird.
It has an airport, but I've heard connections through there can be
expensive. I wouldn't fly into and drive out of Atlanta if I had a
choice...much like the release of a magnificent bowel movement after
days of constipation, making one's way out of Atlanta can be a strained
and unpleasant processs... g

Based on the casual way you steer, I imagine those around you on the road
share your observation. g If you avoid rush hour it isn't too bad, and there
are plenty of flights to choose from.

Thanks very much for the info. It looks like the chamber page will
give me all I need to know about lodging. I'm hoping to find a cabin on
or near the water. I'd hate to go to such beautiful country and sit in
a hotel room when the day is done.

Is the place you usually stay listed on that site? (I'll understand
if you're shy about giving away any more info on the house. :-)

sent you e-mail info on the rental agent...

Now if I can just find the closest airport ...

Asheville or Chattanooga...

Chuck Vance (and is it true that all I need to bring in the way of
flies is some yellow humpies? ;-)

they'll work as good as most...esp. if they have hooks. g but, EHC
and BWOs (esp. parachute) were killers this Fall. if you get the
chance, you should see about getting over to Hazel Creek or Eagle Creek
in the GSMNP. The folks at Fontana Marina will run you over and pick
you up (sometimes - g) for about $45 - you can split cost if others go
along.

I have very vivid memories of Hotlanta traffic, so I think I'll
pass. :-} I'll look into Asheville, as it looks like the drive would
be a pleasant one. Knoxville is also an option, but I never enjoyed
driving through there either. (Is Malfunction Junction still as bad as
ever?)

Thanks for your help.
