as you know, i much prefer the "less traveled" spots far from the
madding crowds. i'm sure the au sable is magnificent, but if it's like all the other "famous" waters i've seen, i'll pass. i really liked those u.p. venues and streams, and it seemed like the critter ratio was just right up there. that's my vote anyway... but, i'm open-minded and tolerant. oh yeah, september would be the month for me. may is penns, july out west, september is open, october is graham county. can't change the rhythm of the woild... so much for the advice, but i look forward to meeting jay one of these days. jeff (up here, in the less posted spot) Wolfgang wrote: Wayne and Bill have been talking about a Troll clave (you know.....the lower peninsula.....BELOW the bridge.....the big mac) on the holy waters sometime this coming season. If I was in the business of giving advice, and you of taking it, I'd suggest we get together on the notion of exploring this possibility. The Au Sable, so I'm told, is big enough to float a Baker AND it holds trout! ![]() Wolfgang |

Is three a consensus? I'd join you, despite your slander of my fair city. :-) And for what it is worth, I've had the Au Sable to myself both times I've fished it. Neither were during the "best" season (one was late July, the other late August). The Mason Tract especially reminded me quite a bit of a U.P. stream. Very nice brookie fishing. On the river, I saw no other anglers and only one or two kayak/canoe groups float by. That said, you wouldn't have to twist my arm very hard to get me to join a congregation in Iron/Schoolcraft/Baraga/Ontonagan/Gogebic counties for some streamside laying on of hands. right now my plan would be to fly in/out of marquette. as i recall, it's
a pleasant and relatively short drive from there to bruce crossing and it's centrally located? we can do another traveling trout carnivale with itineraries, we can do the gypsy thing and make it up as we go, or we can just find an agreeable area to hunker down. in any event, let's locate suitable backcountry lodgings. september isn't "kill a tar heel" season or anything like that up there, is it? skeeters and flies will be corpse-like? 7-10 days? august/september - you guys decide on the dates. jeff Wolfgang wrote: "Jeff Miller" wrote in message news:wwstd.77$Ko.10@lakeread04... Amen! Ya'll thrash out the details. I'm in. Sounds like we're talking about a separate trip from the June both-sides-of-the-bridge clave. If so, I vote for mid-September. As if I can plan for next week, let alone for nine months from now. Perhaps I can even line up the R Lake cabin... Mid-September works for me. Nice time of year up there. The brookies will be in their glory. If you can't get the cabin, I can almost certainly arrange to use Fisher's shack. If we do it, I'm going to take a day to head north to the ancestral fishing grounds in northern Baraga county, see if I can find what was my great uncle's fishing camp on the Huron River. Ya'll are welcome to come along. Can you say "coasters"? Thought you could :-) Well, L'Anse is only about an hour's drive from Bruces, and the Huron has been on my list for a long time. Jay tells me that the Sturgeon is good too. And then, there's the Otter, the Silver, the Slate, the Salmon Trout, the Yellow Dog......... As a matter of fact, from that neighborhood, it's just a short stroll on up into the Keweenaw.......hm...... Oh, and the Hilltop Restaurant in L'Anse serves a good Swedish smorgasbord. Think it is all-you-can-eat. And, Jeff, I believe it is pasty-free. Yah, dey took da pasties off ta make room for da olive bar, eh? ![]() Wolfgang |
