Indeed I do eat them. I soak them overnight in a solution of salt brine
and sugar

(snipped)

Do you ever just filet and eat them? Are they tasty enough for that?

Nice TR, thanks! A 20" whitefish probably gives you a nice
fight. Do you ever eat them?

JR Yep. They're great smoked.

Yes they are. Glad to hear it's not all C&R nowadays. :-)

Heck, I even eat trout, and haven't been marked for reeducation camp.

Yet.

Merry christmas!

Same to you, Jarmo.

JR, I recognize some things from your pictures. All those streams over
there and I never can get them all 'straight' anyway.

I loved your TR, and I also have a trip planned to the same fishery in
March. Anytime I can catch "lots and lots of smallish fish", I be

happy.
4
weight, an indicator (fi'n they ain't takin' drys) with short leader (4'
is
about right I think) seems it might work eh?

JR, I'm jealous of the trip and wishing I could get out. Something

always
comes up to stop the trip.

Padishar, don't know about matching the hatch, but it was kind of nice

to
have the guides following us around trying to figure out how you did

that
salmon thing when no one else was hooking up.

Padishar, even nymphing, I'd go with a longer leader than that; 8-9 ft
5x is fine in most circumstances and if you go to small dries or tiny
nymphs you can add a bit of 6x or 7x. In general, though, the fish are
not tippet shy. A fellow on the Westfly forum recommended fishing small
egg patterns in riffles below where one has located a pods of whitefish.
Somehow it never occurred to me to thing of egg patterns there, but I
think I'll be carrying a few on my next outing.

Anyhow, if either of you does makes the trip down and wants company,
give me a ping here.

JR thanks for the advice, sounds good. As to the fishing trip, Bugcaster
and I have day jobs that are giving us some fits. I travel some and he has
pretty regular hours. What I think we should to is make a trip soon and
screw the bosses, but then again I haven't had the best luck at keeping a
job for some reason. G

rw Indeed I do eat them. ...

I also recommend trying them raw spiced: one large spoon of sea salt
per 1kg of fish, the same amount of sugar, and dill if wanted. Let it
"get spiced" for 24hrs (for a thick fish, 48hrs) in a refrigerator.

Merry christmas!

I've had 'em in restaurants like that, pan fried, grilled, or poached.
So I wonder if smoking is mandatory. I'd much rather panfry fresh
fish on the shore with a coating of flour and seasonings.
