Doesn't ABA stand for American Bass Anglers ? Here's the website I go to
and it seems pretty clear there what ABA stands for.

Curious Bob, why do you call American Bass "ABA"? The reason I ask is
because the circuit ABA stands for American Bass Association, at least
around here anyway. I followed the link from your website to the

American
Bass site, and nowhere can I find the second "A" in question lol.

Please
enlighten me my friend.

Oh, and congrats on another outstanding tournament! That hammer dude

is
gonna dump you if you don't start catching lunker pretty soon...

Nah, atleast not until after the classic. besides of our four big fish

I
put him on two of them and caught one myself

We have also done well in some other tournaments based on my prefishing.

We
are a good team. Next year he may decide he wants a better partner, but

I
have been debating wanting to fish more out of my own boat in all the
tournaments for convenience reasons.

I like fishig with Hammer, but its so nice to close the rod locker and

be
done at the end of the day fishing out of my own boat.

We finished 2nd, and Hammer nailed down the big fish of the day

AGAIN
for
our 3rd big fish in a row, and our 4th this season. It was a 6.55lb

Rats! I was hoping the American Bar Association was starting to sponsor
tournaments. Seems like a good use of my dues.

Bob :

I've been looking at the American Bass Angler tournaments in my region

(Lake
Champlain, VT District 81) and I'm interested in fishing it this coming
summer.

Its a totally different organization.

One thing that's keeping me from deciding for sure right nwo though
is that it seems as if you cannot choose your own partner.

Sounds like a PRO / AM format. That is the way a lot of the bigger money
pro series are setup.

From what I
understand from the tournament director for this region is, you show up,

and
non-boaters get paired by random draw with boaters.

If you fish as a team that's pretty cool If you are fishing agianst the
back boater or even if its boaters against boaters and non-boaters against
non-boaters it can be pretty cut throat. I fish Yuma Bassmasters which does
a boat / no-boat format. For any individual tournament the boater and
non-boater compete as a team, but for season points the boaters compete
against boaters and the non-boaters compete gainst other non-boaters.
Overall its a pretty friendly club. I really enjoy it since every month I
get to fish with somebody new.

So, I would just like to ask you, how have you and your partner managed to
consistently fish together ?

Both series Hammer and I fish in American Bass are straight team
tournaments,

Does your district have different rules ?

Its a different organization entirely.

I have a friend that I'd like to do the tournaments with. We both have
boats, but there is no guarantee, it seems, that we'd be paired as

partners
if one of us came with his boat, and the other came without his boat. And

I
don't really want to go fishing with someone I don't know.

I can understand that, but I have to say that in a season and a half of
fishing with a different guy each month in Yuma Bassmasters I have only had
one mildly negative expereince. Ha, and I won money int hat one at that.
Overall it has been a blast fishing with a new guy in different spots every
month.

Hope you can clear this up for me .... thanks !

I gave it my best shot anyway.

By the way -
congratulations !

Thank you.

Bob, in a true Pro-Am format you neither fish as a team or against your
rider; The pros fish against the pros & the riders fish against the riders.

You are correct. The American Bass you are referring to below is a team tournament trail. The American Bass Anglers is a draw tournament trail. I have fished both as a team member in one and as a non-boater in the other. I have thoroughly enjoyed both. I have heard some horror stories in regards to the draw tournament but in the past 4 years have had nothing but enjoyable trips and have met some really good people. Now, watch my next draw back-boat me......

I was thinking about trying some of the American Bass draw tourneys. I
think the next one is June 19th at Greenwood if I am not mistaken. I
have one friend from Watchung that fishes those quite a bit and he has
encouraged me to give it a whirl. I may try it out as an observer a
time or two to see how they run things. If'n I enjoy my time, I might
join up as a member next year.
