Gordon The active ingredient has been approved in Europe for years. I wouldn't be surprised if picaridin-based products are all over the shelves in a variety of names. Not only that, Bayrepel, the EU Picaridin repellant, is quite a bit stronger than Cutter Advance. My experience with Picaridin is mixed. It worked well on the early season mosquitoes but less well on the later season species here in WI. According to their website that wouldn't be surpising. http://www.picaridin.com/science.htm hth g.c. My experience with Cutter's Advanced was less than satisfactory. First light application wasn't effective at all. I had mosquito bites almost immediately. Next application was about 2 hrs, and many bites later(I should've put it in my fishing). I sprayed it on much heavier than the first application, and this seem to work well, but only lasted 2-3 hours. Last application was even heavier than prior ones. I don't think I got a bite after that. Now that i've had some experience with it, i'll continue to use it, but i'll carry it with me for further applications. In my opinion, DEET is much more effective than Cutter's Advanced. I hate the smell of DEET, but if I think i'm going to be in bug invested areas, I will use it over Cutter's Advanced. My go to DEET repellent is 3M Ultrathon. One application in the morning last pretty much all day. brians |

![]() "rw" wrote in message nk.net... I prefer to take my chances with DEET rather than with West Nile virus or Lyme disease. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. I agree. There is nothing in the report, other than deet being an irritant, that causes me as much alarm as lyme's or west nile. I do not buy spray applicators, I apply lotion to my hands and rub it on exposed parts. If, by chance, I use a spray can, I simply turn my head and, holding my hands away, spray some of the liquid into a hand then apply it as with a lotion. I have a strong dislike for spray applicators of most types, including deodorants, paint, etc. Gene |
