I have a suggestion for a new Winter Olympics event: redneck biathlon. It's like regular biathlon, but with snow machines and machine guns. And hanging cable. g. |

For a change I got to spend the 4 days in Hayward, WI with both my boys. We had more than a little fun, even though my eldest lost his Blackberry (which was found and is in the process of being returned by a Good Samaritan). My favorite picture of the entire week was this one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_2852a.jpg Happy kid on skis, what could be better. My eldest (and I) skied the short 12K race on Saturday. He did really well (12th out of 269). I didn't. More pics he http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&l=35b15daa16 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&l=82e5792067 http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&l=1489291a0b Geo.C. Skating or classic? I like skating. It's fast. There are a couple of good trails near my Stanley cabin and I get out every day, conditions permitting. Watching the XC skiing in the Olympics was interesting but dispiriting. They skate my usual distance (about 9 km) in less than half the time I do. Even the biathlon competitors leave me in the dust, including the shooting. I have a suggestion for a new Winter Olympics event: redneck biathlon. It's like regular biathlon, but with snow machines and machine guns. :-) -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. Great idea RW, seen a few "redneck game on the net and I think they're great. |

This past fall I was in decent jogging shape and my top sustainable pace was about 6-6.5mph, a little less than half a top marathoner. World class athletes are something else altogether, and really quite amazing to me, rather than dispiriting. Jon. |

Running 26.2 10 minute miles consecutively puts you over the finish line of a marathon at 4:22. That's good enough to beat Oprah (4:29:15) but not P. Diddy (4:14:54). -- Ken Fortenberry (4:15:20) |
