Why all of this fuss about the perfection loop? I have read that it tests
poorly and that there are a number of different loops that test to be much stronger..one being the non-slip loop. Does anyone have any test results to show differently? "roo" wrote in message m... As you may know, I'm not a big proponent of the Perfection Loop in rope except in cases where you're certain you don't ever need to untie it. There are several ways of tying it, but often a very simple way seems to be overlooked. Lets start off with the first diagram on this page, ignoring the arrow path: http://www.geocities.com/roo_two/butterflyloop.html Lets number the strands against the tyer's palm as 1, 2, and 3 from left to right. First, you draw strand 1 right, under strands 2 & 3. Then you draw strand 2 right over strand 3 and through the bight made from strand 1. Done. You may choose to use a finger or two in small stuff rather than your entire palm, as appropriate. Fuss? No fuss. I offer no (positive) claims about the loop in
question. In fact, I'm not especially fond of it, as I mentioned in my original post. The Perfection Loop has come up in discussion at rec.crafts.knots and I thought that I'd share an overlooked method of tying for those who are interested for whatever reason. For some, it may just be academic. For others, they might have an application for which they occasionally use the loop. I know a few anglers use it in some line so I included rec.outdoors.fishing in addition to rec.crafts.knots. Cheers, roo "Sierra fisher" wrote in message ... I confess that I occsionally use it too. In my fly fishing, I use the loop
to loop method of attaching lines. When I have only a small amount of line and need a small loop, I use it.. However it is usually the knot that breaks when I put pressure on the line. I replied to the statement made, and I didn't start a new string..
Maybe you don't get the general thought...but then who really cares..50% or more never read anyone's messages. I read yours, but replied my way, not your away, or the way you would want me to. I didn't say anything about your site, but just gave the readers a choice Most just reply so they can sell their idea or product... just like you, and me alike, say do this or that, and then say by the way....stop and see my web site... Like who really cares about a dam knot... I use the improved clinch knot or cinch knot, I don't really know for sure what its called, but for over 45 years fishing. that's what I tie..It breaks, it doesn't break, if it does I say **** lost another one or say the dam fish bit it off. Anyone can get on line, do a search on knots get a 1000 links.. then go to news groups read 20 messages about a perfection loop. I jumped on you message just to bust it nicely.. and give the news readers a choice..and say, by the way, stop in at http://sea4two.net I know the page sucks, and I did this or that wrong, but I want to see more people fishing together, and hope what I do makes a difference . P.S. I did have over 17,000 hits in the last 3 months and hope I helped someone who had no one to go fishing with, find a fishing friend. Allen "roo" wrote in message m... I'm sorry your system doesn't list the group recipients. Don't worry,
I won't be posting to rec.outdoors.fishing ever again (cross-posting or otherwise). KurtB wrote in message . .. Roo, If you thought the discussion was valuable to rec.outdoors.fishing, why not copy and post the entire thread from the other group so we can all benefit? There is a reason that cross posting is looked down upon, and this would be the reason. If I cared about the discussion going on in rec.crafts.knots, I would read rec.crafts.knots. I read your first post (which does not mention rec.crafts.knots) and had the same thought as PB - what does this have to do with fishing? Kurt On 11 Apr 2004 21:47:10 -0700, (roo) wrote: Fuss? I do not get it. I always used a dropper loop for tying stuff up the line.
Is that not a good knot? Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com "roo" wrote in message m...
