Are you looking for a coldwater line, warmwater, or tropic? I have 4
coldwater lines that I will sell cheap. Two have never been fished, one has
been fished once, and one extensivley. These line have way too much memory.
It is hard to get the 555 clear lines back on the spool once you get them
straight. The regular lines aren't as bad if you are fishing in moving
water that pulls one your line, but when you cast out on still water, you
loose about 25% of your cast as the line coils. Unless they have made some
changes in the past year, i couldn't recommend them.

However if you are fishing in warm or tropical water, their stiffness may be
a benefit. Too supple lines tangle too much, and will not cast as far.

Going to be getting a new floater, my rio mainstream is wasted. In the

past
I've been a big fan of Cortland 444 SL and Lazer lines.

So looking over the current offerings I am attracted by the Cortland 555
Ghost tip, 15 feet of clear floating tip sounds like it might just be the
ticket for spooky fish. Seems like I recall mixed reaction to the 555

lines
though.

So is the 555 really cool or the pits?

Other thoughts?

The pits...lots of pits. After fishing the 555 about a 1/2 dozen times,
the line seemed to pickup dirt and grime. After about a dozen trips, the
line sounded like a rasp file going through the guides. It also has
quite a bit of memory/coil. Nothing a good stretching wouldn't solve,
but.... Like others, the tip started to sink, but by then, the rest of
the line was so buggered up, I replaced it. Brand new, it was a dream to
cast. I used it about 6-7 months before I chucked it.

Other thoughts?

I like the original 444 Peach line. It's more supple, and durable. Ditto
SA's freshwater lines.

Disclaimer: I'm tough on my equipment. Maintenance isn't something I
practice very often.

the rain has started here... true to my joy in selfish schadenfreude,
here's hoping it moves on up your way in a hurry. this past weekend i
had the best flounder and puppy drum fishing adventure in more than 2
years. the salty water has just returned to normal in the pamlico sound
and we don't need any more floods thru the estuaries...

Well, hell, if it means that at least *someone* will get to fish - even iffen
that someone is you - then send the whole shootin' match up here, we can take
it - and in truth it can't get much worse than the forecasts already claim.

It's been wet on and off here all day, and this will continue through tomorrow
night. My SO pointed out a window of opportunity on Saturday, as the forecast
calls for the Friday night rains to end early Saturday AM, and for the
Saturday evening rains to hold off until midnite, after which it will rain all
Sunday.

/daytripper (So we got that going for us ;-)

Just to make you happy, Jeff, the rain began here in State College at
111:30 a.m. today, and it has rained almost constantly since then.

Oddly, although the telly is broadcasting flood warnings until noon
Sunday, the local streams (Penns, Spring, Little J) have not started
to rise yet, but it's to rain all night so my planned fishing trip
tomorrow will probably be a washout.

I hope this has made your day, Schadenfreudewise!

bonnie moved on without much other than normal rain, though she was
accompanied by a few tornadoes this morning...charley is pounding
western fla. coast, but expected in nc late saturday or early sunday -
predicted to be mainly west of i-95 with only 1-2 inches of rain over
here... i might get some fishing in after all...i mean, fish gotta eat
even when it rains, eh?
