We all know that no self-respecting fly angler would be caught dead using a reel that costs less than $47.99. The reel itself is $46. It's the self-respect that accounts for the remaining $1.99. Wolfgang who wishes all newbies were this easy to help......then we could move on to a discussion of the best knot for attaching leader to fly line. That's an easy one: The Gordian Knot. I prefer "Johnson's Improved Gordian"®. Wolfgang hey, Timmay! you still got that picture? http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/knot.jpg -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Wolfgang typed: hey, Timmay! you still got that picture? http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/knot.jpg Yeah, that's the one! ![]() Newbies, take note; the diagram shows the knot in use for attaching hook to tippet. One should hardly need to point out that in tying leader to fly line you simply overlap the two......or tie the knot (loosely) in the end of the fly line and then follow back through with the working end of the leader......and you have to cinch this one up carefully. Wolfgang um......somebody remind me sometime to ask dicklet if this will work well as a quick release for anchor chain, o.k.? |

You must be a preety sucky fisherman then. I have fished in Idaho and caught 10 pound rainbows where a drag really helped. Didnt need a $500 reel, but a $100 bbs was just the ticket. Even a okuma sierra would of been enough of a drag, but a automatic reel? Or a rim control only reel? You would of been in bad shape. |

I tell you, look at TiCa, $55 for a cnc machined reel from a 3 weight all the way to a 11/12 weight. http://www.troutlet.com/Scripts/prod...?idproduct=526 6 through 11 weight http://www.troutlet.com/Scripts/prod...?idproduct=395 3 through 7 weight. You might be able to find lower prices, I just saw this web site mentioned in this thread. |
