I disagree with your recommendation. Little tiny fish, tag alder
everywhere you look, very few amenities nearby, downright rotten
weather, black flies that will eat as much of you as they can find
leaving only a few bare spots for their friends the mosquitos to feast
upon.

More truth in that last sentence than one customarily finds here in a
week.

Nope. No sir. Can't recommend Voelker country.

Oh......yeah......that's what I meant.

Um.... you said late May was good for you, right? :-)

I don't recall exactly what time frame I said was good. So, I just checked
my calendar. Looks like I'm free from about 3:30 this afternoon till early
October.

Wolfgang
who may shudder! be headed up that way for some hard water fishing within
the next month or so.

and...wanna try shad in march? we'll provide room and board.

i like poking about all day, so i'm not one of the morning and evening
hatch guys.

"poking about" for you approaches "high-speed death march whilst waving a
fly rod" for me. Hell, Makela and I tried to catch up with you at Penn's one
year while you
"poked about" over water that I would have taken 3 days to cover.

O.k., so, it's shad in March, stripers, bass and trout in April, and more
trout (presumably) in October, right? Meanwhile, the option to fish again
in Michigan continues to loom on the horizon.

Bill, you'd better hurry up and pick a date......my dance card is filling up
REAL FAST!

Anyway, all of those proposals sound good, but I'll probably have to limit
myself to just one. I mean, you know as well as anyone here that I can
behave myself well enough (not without considerable effort, admittedly) to
be considered tolerable company for a weekend of fishing, but I suspect that
Rachel, at least, and probably Sadie as well, would balk at a seven months
long residency for a Yankee lodger.

I'll have to think about the choices for a little while. Hey, you think I
should start a new thread.....you know, open up a discussion on which would
be the best option?

Wolfgang
who suspects that a comparison of daily mean high temperatures vis a vis
curdistan/cackalacky in march may weigh heavily in the equation.

jmo, but i would recommend mid april for trout and bass (largemouth),
and sometime in november for inshore salt water.
and, when you hit the shad at the right time, there is *nothing* more
fun to catch. seems like they peak at different times, different years; but
usually in late march. one must depend upon one's down east buddies for
accurate info.

One begins to hope that one can depend on one's down east buddies for a
steady supply of pharmaceutical stimulants.

O.k., I'm on my way to the old north state sometime in 2008......on one
condition.......mfitons swears by that all he holds sacred, that he will be
there to greet and fish with an old friend......or forever forsake the hope
of ever seeing a naked woman again for the rest of his natural life, so help
him [whoever].

hell...based on the prospect of your cooking alone, rachel would welcome
your stay and tolerate your quirks. g the humor is a bonus...but,
you'd have to smoke in the yard.

I turned 60 a couple weeks ago, and I've been retired 5 years. Those two

Please list the places you like to fly fish for trout. No, I don't want
GPS or real secret spots. But, as I think about how to spend the next 5
summers "trout bumming" I don't want to miss a great place simply because I
havent' heard about it.

The Atlas mountains in Morocco.
The streams that run down through Portugal from the border with Spain.
The pyrenees.
County Cork, Connemara and Donegal in Ireland.
Some of the north-eastern rivers of Scotland (they don't go up and down
too fast)
Exmoor, in England
The Roya in the mountains behind the French Riviera
The clear limestone streams in the centre of Corsica.
Slovenia - grayling.
Azerbaijan and the Caucasus
The rivers that flow north into the Caspian sea in Iran
The streams about two hours north of Kabul in Afghanistan.

By coincidence, you'll eat very well in most of these places too
(except England, Ireland, and Scotland).
