TIA, Randy Not anymore. I only use tapered Riverage Flourcarbon 12" leaders for all my use. Both dryfly, nymph and for sal****er. I only attach a Riverage Flourcarbon tip to the tapered leader. Thats it. Keep it simple ![]() -- Tight lines Thomas Schreiber - DK - Born to fish, forced to work ![]() http://schreiber.se |

For dry fly work there isn't much point in rolling your own. I, like, I think, many other roffians, use a tapered leader one lb. weight heavier than the point I'll be fishing - so often a 4lb. tapered leader. To that I tie a foot or three of 3 lb. mono. You keep snipping the tippet shorter and shorter until you have to attach another one. There are more reasons for making your own if you are, say, fishing a team of wet flies from a clinker-built boat in a good wave on one of the great loughs of the west of Ireland - the Corrib, say, or Mask. Saves money and I get what I want. Now only use FC for dries (usually 9' - 5X) and add a few feet of 7X FC to ensure a drag free drift. Found this combo to be the magic solution to taking fish in heavily pounded waters. For wets, streamers, and steelhead leaders, I make my sections out of 20#, 15#, 10#, and 6# Maxima Ultragreen that I buy on 250 yard spools for about the same price as one factory FC leader.
