Ah...! I think I see the problem, you should be jumping up and down
without going anywhere, say nothing about slamming your forehead,
although thrashing about seems OK;

Could you elaborate, please? Plagiarism will be fine, thanks.

Speaking of not learning, I remember that one time you posted a poem
that you tried to pass of as your own, and when I found out who actually
wrote it you acted like *I* was guilty of something because I used Google.

After observing your behavior on ROFF for years I think I have a pretty
good read on your personality. You always have to prove that you're the
smartest person in the room. That's why you think ROFF is populated with
"morons" and "imbeciles." Your fragile ego can't accept your modest
station in real life, so you bring your contemptible act to ROFF. That's
what makes it so funny to catch you in even the most harmless factual
error -- you go even more ape **** than usual.

Actually, I never wrote so much as a single word of what I've posted here
over the years. Hell, I thought EVERYBODY knew that!

After observing your behavior on ROFF for years I think I have a pretty
good read on your personality.

Leaving aside (for the time being) the perplexing problem of how you've
managed to observe my behavior here for years without ever reading anything
that I "write," I suspect I can speak for everyone here in expressing
breathless anticipation over the doubtless startling but chillingly accurate
revelations to come.

You always have to prove that you're the smartest person in the room.

Hm.....an interesting idea.....and a difficult task it would be!
Fortunately, there is no need; you, and davie, and kennie, and mikie, and
timmie......and dicklet......et al. do that for me.

That's why you think ROFF is populated with "morons" and "imbeciles."

Where, oh where, do you people find these stupid notions?

Your fragile ego can't accept your modest station in real life,

Oi'm a laidy, Oi am!

so you bring your contemptible act to ROFF.

Where, alas, nobody notices!

That's what makes it so funny to catch you in even the most harmless
factual error -- you go even more ape **** than usual.

Yeah, I can hear the laughter from here.

Dredging up a dead thread:

For dry flies, any Lee Wulff pattern is easy and effective: a tail, a

In my entire, albeit limited, fly tying career, I've tied exactly one
Royal Wulff. It was tough, but it turned out beautifully. I'm not
sure why I never tried it again.

To see something different a Prince Nymph our a Zug Bug are both easy
and effective nymph and introduce them to wrapping peacock earl.

I sweartagawd, I hate the Prince. For some reason, I can't, just
can't, get those quill wings on right. I just gave up. :-(

Seems most people try to tie the biots in wrongly. Try this;

This is also good;

Not everybody is a rule follower, philosophical or otherwise, and the
logic of language is entirely dependent on the interpretation, not on
the language itself, or on the meaning which someone may have wished
to convey.

You have all given me a bunch of things to consider.
I was solid on the need to start on a bigger hook. I think the 8/0 is
just way too big. but I will be starting the scouts on something like
a size 2. I am glad the mention of video came up... thats a good idea.
I have some basics on DVD I will use that to get things moving. I will
also do a demostration before starting classes. This will be an
introduction to the tools, materials and fly types.
Its been my experience that putting the tools in the hand of the
student before you start tying instantly loses them. With kids its
probably amplified.
Many people with tools in their hand first will just start right in
and not watch the step you are trying to teach, or sometimes even hear
what you are doing.
I find my self saying something like.... tie the biots in like this,
and right here you will need to trim this piece. I look to the student
and they are trying to move way ahead, and muscle through the fly...
student frustration ensues. no one wants that.

I have been looking over the flies at the shop and in my books, and
reading all the posts. Perhaps I will stick with the bugger as a
second fly in the lesson and start off with a peacock herl nymph like
the zug or some similar 2 or 3 material fly. I wish I could find the
name of the pattern now, but I watched an older gentleman on youtube
tie a nice looking pattern made with just peacock herl and I think a
bucktail wing.
K.I.S.S. I guess

I am hoping I will have an hour with the troops initially and set up
tying instruction with just a few kids at a time after the
demonstration and video. I like teaching to small groups or one
student at a time if I can.

Thanks again everyone, when I get home I will print out this thread
and investigate all the links.
