Line Recommendations

I have been looking with interest at the Cabelas brand lines
specifically the Pro Line. Has anyone used the camo color and or the
root beer? Comments on the quality of the line?

Would appreciate advice on the proper way to spool new line on a
spinning reel. I don't own a line spooler so I will have to do it the
old-fashioned way. I have done some research on the subject and the
latest I found was to place the spool on the floor with the label up.
Crank a few feet onto the reel - if it kinks up, turn the spool over.
Is that correct?

Any help would certainly be appreciated as I am getting ready for hard
water fishing.

Hi Dick,

I can't comment on the quality of the Cabela's brand lines, having never used them. I typically use
PowerPro for 95% of my fishing, with Yo-Zuri Hybrid for the rest. But, you do have the correct idea
for spooling line. Spool away!

When you are spooling, do you put any tension on the line as spool, or just
tie it on and crank it?

You have to keep tension on the line.
I have used Cabela's ProLine, I found it to be very good..For no reason
I changed to Bass Pro Shop's Excel.. I would not hesitate using Proline
again...

I found BPS Excel to be too stretchy. Way too much stretch in that line...

The stretch doesn't seem to matter unless your making super long casts
or fishing in deep water..The deepest water I fish is 12ft and I can't
make long casts with my cheap Abu catfish reelsg

Hi all, all of my spinning reels spool up fine if I put the new roll
of line on the floor so the line comes off counter clockwise. I don't
pay any attention to the lable because if I put the lable up half of
the rolls of line I have the line comes off clockwise.

I put just a little tension on the line by running the line through my
index finger and thumb.

Hi,

I don't know about the cameo brand from Cabela's. But they are a name
that can be trusted. Like one of the guys said earlier, PowerPro. I
use the 20 lb test with a 6 lb diameter. I chose the 20 lb over the
30 because I like to extend the fight. Sometimes even getting the
drag involved.

Fishing line is a personal choice. You may have to try various styles
and manufactors before you find one that's right for you.

About putting line on a spinning reel, I use the Berkley system that
goes for about 20 bucks. Even still you have to watch the line
because you could be putting it on backwards. I think regardless of
the method you use, you'll have to watch how the line comes off. The
tip Dale gave is a great one, I use it too. It'll keep the light
tight against the spool which is what you want.
