I happened to notice two water related things yesterday.
(1) I could see the Sierra crest in the Yosemite area, from our deck, and it is much whiter than normal for this time of year. Today's paper reports that we are at double normal rainfall for this time ... a trend I hope continues, the West needs some wet Winters. (2) I went to Costco ( big warehouse type store) and they were trying to get people to sign up for some service or other. As incentive to fill out the forms they offered FREE ..... water. Struck by that I then noticed just how much space, there at Cosco and in the local supermarket, is devoted to water....plain old, should be a cheap as turning on the tap, drinking water. And I noticed what a high percentage of shoppers had cases of it in their carts and were paying for ...water. I'm lucky in that we have tested, very pure, well water, but I must say that the fact that so many people now pay for water .... and seem to just accept that fact ..... is a very sad statement about the state of our environment |

I agree. Our home city-water is not bad, but the pipes in the 100+ yo house are not the best. We bring home well water from my place in the Adirondacks and fresh spring water from my wife's place in Jefferson Manor. It's tough to make that water last, it tastes too good. |
