TR- salmon river, ny

Drove out Friday nite for the TU State Council Exec meeting. Left a
dinner at work a hair early, got to Pulaski in time to check into the
Super 8, and drove to the hatchery at Altmar for a meeting.

Saturday I was meetinged up at the general meeting till around 3. Used
the facilities to put on my thermals, and drove past the cemetary to
Malinda's to stock up-- I left my sunglasses and hat at work, and wasn't
even sure if I had any globugs in the car. I bought a pair of fitovers,
a $3 knit cap, some 0X tippet, and a half dozen flies.

Drove to the Trestle Pool. There were some spin fishermen there, so I
just fished the tailout. Whole river stank of dead fish, and there were
carcasses all over the place.

Around 4:30, I got into a good fish on an estaz egg type deal with bead
chain eyes. It took me about five minutes to convince myself he was fair
hooked, he was fighting so hard. I lipped him with the Boga grip my
brother gave me, so I can say with some level of assuredness that this
Steelhead weighed in at 13 pounds. It was the only fish I saw hooked
that whole trip!

Fished for a while longer, till just before dark. Guides iced up pretty
good after a while. Called it a night, drove back to the hotel, and
called my bro to tell him I broke in that Boga Grip.

Fished a little on Sunday morning, after a good breakfast at that diner
on Rt 13 right off of 81. Having dropped almost 4o pounds on Atkins, I
gave myself the weekend off, and went for the pancakes. MMMMmmmm, carbs.
Went back to the trestle pool. Situation was much the same as the
previous PM, but with drift boats here and there. No action I could see.

Just before leaving, I remembered a poster at the hatchery about Salmon
River falls. Drove around a bit looking for them, and found them.
Pretty, 110 ft drop into a nice plunge pool. As I was alone, I decided
not to walk the trail down to the base, but I did hand around the top for
a while. Pretty place. Can't fish there, but it really is worth the

Clearwater is one of the more active chapters in the Council. I've
probably met him, but don't know it.

Clearwater is one of the more active chapters in the Council. I've
probably met him, but don't know it.

Do you have any results from your survey? I started guiding on the
Battenkill this summer. Had great success with clients and personal trips
with friends. Saw and landed many large browns on streamers against the
bank at all hours of the day.

He's the president of the Albany chapter. I met him last weekend doing
some redd surveying on the Batten Kill. Nice guy.
