Default $500 Baitcaster

Well, I'm not buying one, but I have to tell you guys. . . I'm danged
impressed. Went to a new local tackle shop today and was nosing around the
reels with a friend of mine who asked me if I'd seen the new Shimmano
"computerized" reel. I hadn't so out of the show case it came. The guy
behind the counter telling me how far it could cast. . . farther than I
could throw any reel in the joint. blah blah blah.. you know?

So I says "Look pal for $500. my thumb does just as good a job". He says
"Five bucks says it can't." I say's "yer on." So out the front door of the
shop and into a long long nearly empty mini mall parking lot we go. . . me,
my buddy another customer and the sales clerk. The guy hands me the rod and
reel and says give it a go. I threw a medium cast and it went ok, but didn't
notice much difference. Then he turned me into the wind and said... give it
a real heavy throw and . . . don't put your thumb anywhere near the spool.
I did and it went pretty well, but I think i was a little timid with it. But
I threw that silly thing a country mile and not a line strand out of place.
It was amazing.

But then this guy who was with us took that reel and threw the plug farther
than I have ever seen any cast in my life. And never touched the reel spool
and not anywhere near a backlash. Now I'm not going to go buy one, can't
afford it any longer, but it was the damndest thang I ever saw when it came
to casting. Now it does have a set back in that the retrieve is slow.. like
a 5:1 or something like that. A great crankbait reel though because you
could throw the thing into the next county.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this thing and had any thoughts or
comments about it. I was very favorably impressed with everything except the
price.

I once thought the Curado was too much. Now I own 5 of them. Also thought
it'll be a cold day on August before I ever spent over $100 on a rod... now
I own, well never mind. Let's just not tell my wife.

Would I pay $500 on a reel??? I hope not!

Yep. I live next to the South Elgin Dam on the Fox river (almost
literally), and my job takes me all over the chicago land area.
