In honor of the Pirate here's Molly Ivin's column for this week.

I'm sorry, but every now and again a girl just finds it necessary
to lay her head down on the table and howl with laughter. I wrote
a column warning that USA Next, a Republican Astroturf (meaning
"fake grass-roots") group was going to attack the AARP.

....

I haven't laughed so hard since President Bush informed us that we
have had a close and enduring friendship with Japan for the past
150 years.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Which Bush said that? I assume it must be W, since his dad took an
unintended swim courtesy of Japanese AAA back in '44.

Yep, it was Shrub.

Is it just me, or does that whole "speech" read as if it were
written for a junior high school civics class? I know the guy can't
speak worth a damn, but seeing that on the screen makes me think it's
not all his fault.

I wonder who the hell writes his speeches.

"I'm proud to join you in commemorating the 150th year of the important
relationship between the United States and Japan." reads a little
differently than "...President Bush informed us that we have had a close
and enduring friendship with Japan for the past 150 years."

Agreed. Facts are a lot more instructive and generally helpful if
there is actually something factual about them.

That said, even the corrected text sounds......um......shall we say a
bit peculiar?.....in light of some of the changes that relationship
has gone through.

Wolfgang
who, having declined to look at any sources other than what has been
transcribed here, takes it on faith that tim's version is the more
accurate........not a difficult leap of faith to make under the
circumstances.

What's a Molly Ivin's? Google....... Ahhhh, the lefts answer to Rush
Limbaugh. The extreme right wingers have their hero and the extreme
left wingers have their hero. (She sure is homely.) Thankfully, most
of us are somewhere inbetween.

Wally's shop is fantastic. It sits on the main street in Morganton,
on a corner, and has lots of great things. Pretty big store - bigger
than some Orvis shops I've been in. I dropped about $900 there, with
new Sims waders, Chota boots, new vest (my Orvis one is held together
with safety pins), couple of shirts. I'm heading to Kamchatka for a
week and Alaska for a week in August, so this new stuff will see some
tough use.

Wally and Marie look good. I wish him all the best in his
capitalistic success. He's worked hard for his dream.

Panoz racing school at Road Atlanta was nothing short of fantastic.

I'll be back after I fish with Peter in May. Until then, play fair.
And don't listen to the **** that Fortenberry tries to foist upon you
d;o)

Dave
