I have caught them on worms, minnows, and once on salmon eggs when fishing
for pan fish. I assume you are refferring to the general sunfish group referred to as smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass. Minnows are probably the best non artificial, but an active nightcrawler int he right place can do the trick as well. If you want to mix medias so to speak... I have seen them caught with minnows on jigs, and I have often considered throwing night crawlers on jigs. -- ** Public Fishing and Boating Forums ** www.YumaBassMan.com "Dr. D" wrote in message m... use a light weight Mac rig with live minnows. should be allot of fun. Here on the East Coast that's what we call them, "Sun Fish." With the Bluegill Sun Fish being the largest and then there are the; Large Mouth, Small Mouth, Rock Bass, White and Black Crappie, etc. I had not heard of that name American Sun Bass before and it was not listed in the McClane's New Standard Fishing Encyclopedia. -- Dave |

Theres so many of them here in Maine they have become a pest fish. I don't know anyone who eats them off hand. If you paddle in the shallows you can often see them sitting in their nests in the summer. Plop a worm on a hook near the nest ... reel them in. On the Largemouth topic, which is one of my favorites. I dip a few minnows and run them either free or on a slip float when I want to fish live bait. They seem to like late afternoon feeding on still water the best where I fish. It's tricky to do.. but I once got a good one on a locust I stuck on a small hook. Over the past couple of years though I have gotten the best response by running a little weedless brown rubber mouse (I wish I could remember the manufacturer of those things) over the lilly pads and howl with excitement when they break the water to get it. Black and gold 3" rapalas are the best for me on Largemouth. _______________________________ Everything from fishing to Freaks www.sprattoo.com _______________________________ |
