Wow,
I was there the 1st time app. 1980 and could see the eruption from Sandy OR. Might still have the VHS tape we took laying around in some box. Gigantic plume, lightening all around the base. Scary. We also saw the total eclipse of the sun about that time. Awesome. Now I'm waiting to see a tornado in TX and heading to the gulf for the next hurricane. Love that stuff. Only worry about you and / or amusement. I haven't worn my WWFD? button outdoors yet. It's spooky enough that it's staring at me as I compute. I have tried to remember you when fishing. If WWFD? is, goferit, I settle back and do something else instead. You're a wonderful teacher, even over the 'Net. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout. I've been through several strong hurricanes, including Camille, Frederick, Andrew, and the group this past season, and I've been within a mile of several tornados, including the big one that tore up the DFW area a few years ago, and while "awesome" in the "power of nature" sense is appropriate, "awesome" in the "that's REALLY cool" sense absolutely isn't. If you seriously _want_ to go through any of that, you may wish to talk to someone about your death wish... Love that stuff. Yeah, well, come back and say that AFTER the fact...if you and your belongings are healthy enough to do so... TC, R |

Camille was bad in 1969(?). Some of the Guardsman I knew were sent to help
with the clean-up. I missed being in the Fort Worth tornado by about 30 minutes. The Carter-Burgess Building where I worked was seriously damaged. The glass was blown out on the entire west side of our offices. We all worked remotely for a little over a month until the offices and building were re-opened. Repair work on the building continued for at least a year (along with the rest of downtown Fort Worth). That was serious and sad. My only death wish is to have my ashes dropped over the Deschutes River. G Beware of the dog...& the cat is not trustworthy either. wrote in message ... When the tornado hit FW, I was about 4 blocks south of the path and on the phone with someone about 2 blocks north - damnedest weather-related thing I've ever seen THAT close and not be directly hit. A friend in the Bank One tower (now a condo tower) rode it out in the stairwell with his sec and a paralegal. After it was over, they went back to his office, only to find _everything_, including the wallcovering and carpet, gone. My SO was with the city at the time, and had to be downtown in the "command center" for the rest of night and most of the next day, and there were some real "only in a tornado" stories. The oddest thing I remember was a car that was picked up from a parking spot, lifted over two two-story buildings and dropped into another parking lot, almost perfectly into a spot. It hit so hard it blew the glass and tires out. That, and a few other things, like the aforementioned Bank One tower sheathed in plywood, made some interesting pictures, but I have no desire to witness it again (or really, could have done without being in the thick of it in the first place).
