Tues 29th. Llyn Derwen (smallish lake on a farm outside Ruthin, N.
Wales.) Cold E. wind. Arrived about 10am to see fish rising everywhere! Large black buzzers coming off. Tried the usual Shipman's floating buzzer (works well at Farmoor) - not a thing. Swapped to a suspender buzzer, lots of swirls, some takes and quite regular hook-ups. 1st 3 fish all over 2lb in lovely condition. Switched to cul-de-c emerger buzzer - good fish 1st cast, but cul-de-c no longer kept the buzzer up - despite amadou etc (what is the answer?). Decided to see if any were feeding sub-surface so put on 2 black buzzers at about 4 ft and 10 ft. Takes virually every cast, but only at long distance. All hook-ups were on the dropper - except I even manged to hook 2 at once. A 2lb rainbow took the dropper and when getting it close to the net I saw another fish swirling around. Managed to net and release the 1st fish (rainbow) and then net and release the 2nd - tiger trout. Rise continued all morning but stopped around lunch time - no takes at all after that. All trout released in the water - barbless hooks are compulsory. Opening day at Farmoor 1 on Friday - going by past experience I will be lucky to see/touch/hook/land any at all (although the cttee said they would stock before opening this year!) Interesting they you took a fish on the C-D-C and not the suspender as they are basically the same idea. Without seeing the c-d-c buzzer I wouldnt know but I might suggest that a bigger bunch of c-d-c might do the trick. I like to tie my buzzers very lightly dressed on a #12 sedge hook. The bend in the hook gives a very "natural" appearance to the fly. I think the sunken buzzer combo fished static is brilliant and seems you did well using that method. You had a good day. -- Bill Grey http://www.billboy.co.uk |
