I'm a business school student looking at the market feasibility of
introducing a 2-10HP electric outboard engine that could be used as primary propulsion. This product would be introduced by a major player in the industry within the next few years. I would like to hear your reactions and get your thoughts on whether or not this would be an attractive product. I would also like to know how you see this product being used once it is introduced. |

a question pops up in my mind pretty quickly, i.e. if the physics are
realistic, wouldn't Minnkota, et al, be in the market already? bill wrote in message oups.com... I fished with a gentleman who had a 20 hp OB with a golf cart motor in
place of the power head, he used it to get from point A to point B in Maryland reservoirs, he used golf cart batteries which were expensive. I am sure the motor didn't produce any where near 10 hp maybe 5. I don't think it was very practical |

I've sold a couple of different boats with the Minnkota electrics. Only if
that was the ONLY way would I even consider. Twice the price of a gas engine with half the output, plus the expense and pain of that bank of batteries. Man you must have some major batteries for HP like that, equal to what would go into a golf cart This product would be introduced by a major player Is a major company actually looking at doing this,, or is this just a school "what if" project , or have you invented such a motor, and "hope" to license it ? in the industry within the next few years. The simplicity of small light weight gas engines, that you just add gas to, is going to be very hard to over come. You won't capture even 1% of that market, but who knows there might be tree huggers that would buy enough of them to keep a small company going, Of course they already have electrics for small boats, that just use one battery or two, these motors are light weight, and up to 2 HP -- Rodney Long, Inventor of the Long Shot "WIGGLE" rig, SpecTastic Thread Boomerang Fishing Pro. ,Stand Out Hooks ,Stand Out Lures, Mojo's Rock Hopper & Rig Saver weights, Decoy Activator and the EZKnot http://www.ezknot.com |

That would assume that the "big guys" are smarter than the rest of us, which obviously ain't so. -- Bob Rickard (AKA Dr. Spinnerbait) www.secretweaponlures.com --------------------------=x O'))) "bill a" wrote in message m... a question pops up in my mind pretty quickly, i.e. if the physics are realistic, wouldn't Minnkota, et al, be in the market already? bill wrote in message oups.com... But if those questions are answered satisfactorily, then why not. There would probably be a market for it...maybe a limited one at first, but who knows where you will go from there. If there is some "solar" recharging factors considered, maybe in the future, with advanced technology, we will all be "gas" free! My thoughts are...go for it, and if you truely beleve in it....make it work! Good luck! JK |

Do a search on diablo electric outboard.
You will find a Briggs Etek Electric on a conventioanl outboard lower unit that runs in the 12HP range along with all kinds of testing information relating to weight, voltage, speed, and longevity. http://www.psnw.com/%7Ejmrudholm/etekoutboard.html wrote in message oups.com...
