Hit the Willi for a few hours this afternoon....first real trip of the
year. Absolutely great conditions. Water level about average for the time of year, water temp 51, air temp 65, light breeze, many caddis and stoneflies along with a few Hendricksons hatching, but no apparent interest by the fish. Finally noticed a few flashes down deep. Tried a Sparkle Pupa, Hendrickson Nymph, Prince, and Brown Stonefly Nymph without a touch. Switched to the old standby Olive Wooly Bugger fished dead drift and hooked up on the second cast. Long story short, four stovkie Browns 10" to 12", ond holdover Brownie a little over 15", and a 12" Brookie, either a native or, (more likeley), a holdover. Five on the bugger and one on a Copper John. Great to get out again....it's been a long winter. ![]() I did breifly fish the "secret spot" last week. I managed one 16" rainbow, but the conditions were not good. Water is coming over the spillway, and the flow is now 298 CFS. Frame of reference - when we had the micro clave last summer the flow was 36. The flow has been at that level for six days, and will likely be high for the rest of the month. One possible benefit is that quite often some real honking big salmon, lakers and rainbows get washed over the spillway and become available in the river. -------------= Posted from Ugroups.com =------------- ---= Fast & Free Web Portal to Usenet Newsgroups =--- -------------= http://www.ugroups.com/ =------------- |

The water seems to be going down a bit on the Quaboag, and the CT is down about four feet from a week ago. I'm stuck at home with a nasty head cold, but it won't last long, and I may have some free afternoons soon. Maybe the timing will be right for the secret spot. -- TL, Tim --------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj/ |

George i was on the Natchaug opening day pretty much saw the same
thing.........About two weeks ago i was working on a stone building on the lower Willi in Willimantic the old tread mill which parts are in the river and saw tons of caddis hatching next day i went to the C&R section and not a bug was moving i had figured as much as stone will hold heat better than water.......... By the way they finally put decent fish in the trophy section of the Natchaug all fish caught were over 12" biggest being around 18" and chunky.........
