Default Still lurking Swede

Hi all,

Figured I'd wright a few lines.
I still don't have an ISP that will provide me with Usenet newsgroups, so I'm still confined to lurking. I'm trying this new service http://www.fishingbanter.com/ and will see how it works.
As the Penns clave is coming up, and as I cannot join, I wish to send my regards to all of you guys that wrere there last year. I haven't given up on joining again (hopefully next year).
Started a new job in november and had eight days to enjoy my work until they asked me to be a PM for a project with connections in six different countries and three different continents, so much for peace and quiet ;-)
Funny thing, Myron asked me to keep a look out for a summer house in Sweden on his behalf, and then he ends up in Hongkong with little chance of joining us for some fishing this summer. Now then, I couldn't arrange for a clave in Sweden this year, because I'm off to Tokyo from the 1st of August until at least the 15th of December (maybe even the 15 of February -06). If you read this Myron and feel up to seeing Tokyo, let me know.
Only sad thing is that most of my fishing season (the autumn) is gone, and so also all of my bird hunting season. I will however try to end my session in Japan with a trip to New Zeeland.
Fishing, here, hasn't really started yet as most of the lakes are still iced over and also most of the rivers aren't fishable yet, but in another 14 days we will be catching trout again =)
As for the clave in Sweden that became nothing this year, I will be trying to arrange one next year instead.
Vaughan, I know I've said that I would join you and Jarmo(?) to river Laisan this autumn, as you can tell it doesn't look good. However, Ransaran creek and Gierts creek is definitely going to happen and if you get that quota stretch before the end of July I'm still game.
Hopefully this gateway works out, that I can contribute with..........whatever =) on ROFF.

/Roger Ohlund
If you feel like it visit http://www.imsoc.se/angler/ for info on fly fishing in the northern part of Sweden.

Damn. Well, congratulations for the new job, and sorry for the hassle
it's causing. Don't let it completely screw up your priorities.

There is some trout fishing in Japan. Every time I was over there it was out of
season, but if you go in August the streams should still be open. There is some
info on the web (http://www.itow.com/amago/b-streams/index2.html is an example).
I would liked to have tried Tenkara style fishing too.

Those are some fine-looking streams. And they have the white-spotted
charr there. If I remember correctly, some small-stream rod series
from the major players are nowadays sold only in Japan, so there must
be a considerable market for them over there. So Roger, maybe you
should take your 7' 3wt (IIRC) with you.

Some time ago I saw a nature documentary about bears on one of the
northernmost Japanese islands. In that document the Pacific salmon
runs looked healthy too. (Might be difficult access, though.)

Yeah, I've been mourning the passing of my dream of a summer home in
Sweden for a few months myself. But if you're gonna be in Tokyo, then
we should definately hook up. Its only a few hours from me, and you
might even be able to get away for a weekend and visit Hong Kong. Lets
also look at getting together in New Zealand when your project is
done...I have a few weeks off right around christmas time.

Hi Roger

About Japan, they have runs of cherry salmon that look a lot like our
steelhead. They may well be worth chasing. There are a number of
notable spey casting gurus in Japan who use the long rod for these
fish so the tradition is there. I can recall a Japanese trout site
that was listed here but I can't find the URL for it. A beautiful
site with some great images.

BTW, just picked up a Loop Evotec HD 9thirteen -- what a gorgeous
piece of Swedish engineering.

Good luck in your travels.

Peter

I've been mourning the passing of my dream of a five year old car with under
a hundred thousand miles on it for several years myself. If any of you are
going to be in Mukwonago, then we should definitely hook up. It's only
about half an hour from me, and you might even be able to get away for a
weekend and visit Oconomowoc. We should also look at getting together in
Racine....I might have a day or two off right around Christmas time.

I don't suppose you could, or would, live on a teacher's salary,
Wolfie. And for the record, I could not afford to get to Mukwonago from
here. Or Oconomowac, or Racine for Christmas. And have a nice time at
the next San Juan or Penn's Clave.
