Default TR: The Wayne Effect

On the scale of TRs, this is a one, but since the healing effects of
TRs has now been clinically established, even the one's are of some
value.

Yesterday after work, I took a prototype trout two-hander out for
another try. This rod has been built by a custom builder on the West
Coast by the name of Bob Meiser. Round one had been last year. This
time around, I'm having a go for drop backs.

Wilkes Dam in Brantford hardly qualifies as a fly fishing destination
but the runs below it do hold fish. Sacrificing aesthetics for the
slim possibilities of that gratifying whack on the end of my line is
nothing new for me so I make do.

The best run is more than half way across (about a 150' wade) so I
toss a Mickey Finn into a close-by run. In the process, I tick a
rock. More about that later.

Boredom with the little run strikes quickly and the main run beckons.
First cast into the big water gets me a big hit, head shakes, a run
then gone. Second cast gets the same. O ****! Pull up the fly.
That "rock tick" has bent the point up. No sharpener. I fish out a
small pebble from the run and put it to work as a sharpener. One day
I *will* learn.

In my heart, I know that my stupidity has cost me any further chance
today. While God protects the fool, even He has his limits.

After about an hour of casting, my stupidity has been paid its penance
and a solid thud transmits its way up the line. The Trouter is bent
double by whatever is on the end. It jumps. In the light of an
evening sun, it shines gold. No, don't tell me. It can't be. Back
and forth, the Trouter breathes hard and works its little butt off.
Finally the object of all this fuss gets close enough to see that it's
a light coloured smallie in the 2-3 pound range.

That was it for the outing but it was worth the price of admission . .
.. .
