Positive note!!

I did have a rather surprisingly positive note yesterday. I was fishing a
back water channel know locally as the California channel. A family in an
I/O towing a huge float pull toy came down along side of me. I waved them
by on the side opposite of where I was fishing. They came downt he channel
at a slow speed, past me at a slow speed, and seemed to continue down at a
slow speed. On top of that the guy apologised about coming by so close to
me while I was fishing. Seemed like a very courteous boater all the way
around.

You have to drive slow while pumping oil and gasoline out of the bilge

Bob ,

It sounds like we post things like your previous post weekly. I don't
think we will ever change the way these people see other fisherman.
On the flip side of it, there are people that will go out of their way
to be courteous on the water.

I had eluded to this on a previous post, but I think the more people see
others being courteous, especially teaching the next generation of
fisher people. Not only show them what is considered right or wrong, but
tell them exactly why it is right or wrong. Like you said Bob, the guy
didn't really even realize he did anything wrong, or just plain didn't
care. Makes me wonder if they have ever been on the other end, and feel
that it is ok to do, or maybe just taking revenge on every other
fisherman out there. Could be the attitude of win at "any" cost, even
if it means ruining someone else's day. TO me , that is where people go
wrong, and are no longer in competition with the fish, but with the
other anglers.

Oh well, that is just my 2 cents.

Its tough, because you notice all the discourteous and certainly all the
down right dangerous boaters out there. It really is a shame when you find
a courteous boater to be a noteable exception. There are some good guys out
there though. I've had guys take time out of fishing a tournament to tow me
in, and I have had a jet skiier pull me off a sandbar. .

I remember a week ago seeing a wake board boat come out of Squaw Lake on
step when I was fishing stripers at the mouth of the lake early in the
morning. Obvious they were flying all the way across the lake. The whole
lake is posted 5 mph with a big sign at the launch ramp. I admit that a
sign at the ramp is less than noticable to most folks. I got stopped for
going to fast on that lake a couple years ago because I never noticed the
sign before. I yelled over at the guy that the whole lake was 5 mph. He
said F' U and his passenger flipped me off. Dang. I was just trying to
save the guy a rather expensive ticket in case he didn't know any better. I
recall when I first started boatign here I never realized there was a limit
on that lake. Oh, well.

I think may be getting over sensitive sometimes though. It sems that
something like that (although not as bad) has happened the last four outings
I have fished in a row. I think I need to quit fishing on weekends and just
take a couple mornings off during the week to go fish. Either that or get
myself a nice shallow V jet boat and just fish the lower river where most
guys can't go.
