This year was supposed to be a bonus run of pinks, the progeny of two years ago
when we had the biggest run ever and two fish that broke a long standing state record. Sometimes things aren't what they are supposed to be. I've seen a small run of fish, caught a few, not more than a dozen in any one outing, and no sign of a big fish. They're spawning now, and looking moldy so I suspect that the rain won't be bringing more in. Maybe the silvers will save this fall. I'm hoping the fish are late. Last week on the Cascade I was hoping for silvers, and managed to catch 4 bull trout, the biggest was 21 inches. The 19 incher was particularly fun. He attacked an 8 inch whitefish that had taken my single egg pattern. He pounded it two or three times, so I slacked up on the whitefish to watch what the bull trout would do. Somehow that whitefish spit the hook and disapeared. In the same moment the bull trout saw the now available egg and took it in. I landed the trout while still laughing at the convoluted technique.
