Fished five miles offshore in Beauford N.C. area yesterday----pods of false
albacore were everywhere but I was unable to find a fly they would accept so changed to spinning tackle and a mirrowlure and caught until my wrist was tired of cranking. We saw birds really pounding one bait ball so motored over and found albies working a small dense ball and four or five big [ 7 to 10 ft] sharks circling the albercore. Carnage everywhere but we were able to sit almost on top of the action and watch---quite a happening. Later caught a big king and one shark so called it a day after a long ten hours. Closer inshore we saw several guides busy chasing small pods around trying to help their flyfishermen into fish but only saw one hookup. Just send me to the mountains with a four weight. Joseph |
