When I was a kid we'd visit a lake in Maine every year that had a
destroyed dock that was a place for hundreds of minnows to grow up. I spent countless hours catching 2-3 inch fry/minnows with that net. Is anyone aware of any lake, river or similar area near or a day trip from Washington, DC where kids can catch minnows with a net? There's a good sanctuary off the potomac but they do NOT want us fishing for the minnows with nets. I've been told Sligo Creek or parts of the Potomac near great falls are good, but I couldn't find fish there last spring. I woudn't mind paying for licenses as long as the kids can get their nets in the water. catch and release, of course, I have no need for live bait. Don |

Couldn't you just go swimming somewhere on the river or at a nearby pond....
let the kids play with butterfly nets in the water. Theres bound to be minnows lurking about shore somewhere.
