Took a jaunt down to the River with a friend yesterday. We were
hoping to follow up on his big day Sunday, when he took 20 fish, many on dries (skated stonefly imitations) . The water was high but still wadable, temp 51.3F. A brisk SW wind kept the water riffled and made any risers hard to spot (if there were any). Joe (my friend) and I leapfrogged runs down the river, with Joe getting short hits on a beadhead wooly bugger and I getting nada. Finally Joe hooked a brown, a 10 or 11 incher. After starting with a Lamprey (a lead eyed rabbit strip thing) I had switched over to a Hornberg. I got one splashy rise at it and one tug as I brought it back upstream under water. And that was it. (Even tried a nymph dropper.) A few stoneflies were coptering around and maybe some very small microcaddis but thats all the bugs we saw. (Lots of ducks though.) A slow day for sure but still great to actually get some River time . A few pics: http://fishskicanoe.tripod.com/geopics/IMG_0083a.jpg http://fishskicanoe.tripod.com/geopics/IMG_0084a.jpg hth g.c. |
