I got a co-worker friend who's father-in-law passed away recently. His
mother-in-law has her deceased husbands fishin' gear and is in need of cash
more than she is in need of fish. I haven't seen any of the gear except:

Orvis Battenkill Rod
8ft, 3 pc., 4 1/2 oz., one tip, 6 wt. Serial #21XXX

I have talked to various folks about this rod and have a general idea of its
worth. Also called Orvis. They said that the rod was made on 8/1/1957 by
Calvin Skinner and George Reid. This is apparently before the Wes Jordan
era.

If this rod has ever been fished, it doesn't show it. The rod tube, sock
and rod are in pristine condition. I honestly don't think the rod has ever
had a line thru its guides, nor a reel in the seat!

Anyway, if anyone is seriously interested, you can contact me at: burtann
at bellsouth dot net

If you don't contact me between tonight and tomorrow night, I won't be able
to respond until after this weekend, as I am going fishin' for the weekend.

Battenkills should have two tips. Any idea what happened to the other one?

Charlie, this rod was apparently custom made for an individual, as the rod
never had two tips. The tube cap and tube inscriptions are "stamped" "1
Tip"?

I talked to Carmine Lisella of Jordan Mills Rod Co. about the rod and he had
the same question.

This rod is really in outstanding condition, for it's age and if no one else
gets it, I probably will try to.

$700 or best offer has been determined.

A fella, who's name I can't recall contacted me about the rod, but I
couldn't get through his Spam filters to reply--evidently--as he hasn't
responded to my e-mail fro him to give me a phone call? Anyway, if you are
out there, "longtime lurker," give me a holler or respond to this thread?
