Having returned to the US after many years abroad and located ourselves
in Atlanta (first time living in the South), we are hoping to start freshwater fishing. Have noticed warnings about mercury levels. What fish are affected? There are all these "catch and release" fishing sites. Where can you "catch n eat"? Thanks, GamiD |

Thanks, GamiD Find North Carolina and fish any of the National Forest Game Lands streams! If ya make it as far as Boone, NC, let me know, via ROFF and I will be happy to guide ya gratis on some beautiful waters. You will need to be able to hike and wade rough terrain, where I like to fish, however. Op |

Have noticed warnings about mercury levels. What fish are affected? When you buy a state fishing licence you will usually be able to get state-oriented information about which fish are safe to eat. When you want to chill your blood, read NY state information about Great Lakes salmonids, of which the larger are amply spiced with several contaminants. Mercury is usually local in its impact (except in the lower Great Lakes.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |
