Guyz, I just received the message below, after returning from fishin' with
Walt Winter, Drew and Danny.

Good Morning,
Most of you don't know me, but please don't delete this email.
My name is Candy Mohnsen, I am the sister of Dave.

I thought I should let you all know. That Dave, is in the hospital,
The Swedish Medical Center, 501 East Hampton Ave., Englewood, CO
80113-2795

The diagnosis, is not good. liver, & kidney disease. Anywhere from 1
month to 3 months.

I know, he would kill me if he knew that I am emailing any of you on
this, But I don't agree with the way that he wants to go out of this world.

My mother was trying to get a hold of him for 2 weeks, (Dave couldn't
get to the phone). My daughter, Amber, finally called the police to come
over to his house. They forced Dave into the hospital on 6/13/06.

Since my mother & I live in SD, by the Minnesota border. (Only about
900 miles). We jumped into the lil' Ford Ranger on Thursday, morning
6/15/06. Arrived in Morrison, Friday Morning.

We are at the house at the present, trying to clean, And figure out how
& what we will do here.
Again, I apologize, if you feel invaded by me going down his list of
email partners.
But I feel it is important that you know what is going on.

I sent a reply as soon as I read the sad news.

Sorry, I didn't even think to include an email addy in my first post. I
assume that Dave's sister, Cindy, will receive any replies at:


Apparently, she got me because I was in Dave's email address book from when
he sent me the vise. I'm feelin' pretty bad about now. I never sent Dave
the *two* flies he requested for the vise, as I have been tyin' up a bunch
of different patterns that I was gonna send to him, in return for his
kindness.

It certainly does suck. Dave is a true gentleman, and fly tyer
extrordinaire. He's proven to me on several occasions his extreme giving
nature. I've spoken to him several times over the past four or five
months and he mentioned some health problems, but said it was nothing
major and he didn't want to discuss it further. Thanks for passing this
on, Mark.

I'm also sorry to hear about Dave's sudden illness.
We had emailed eachother about fly-tying about two months ago. He is indeed
a gentleman, this is very sad news and
I wish the best for him and his family.

posted in such tragic circumstances.

I was just now able to contact Candy, and she was good enough to fill me in
on Dave's condition. As the email indicated, the condition is terminal. She
has issued orders to the doctors to keep him comfortable by whatever means,
but has issued a DNR order because of the quality of life issues. She gave
me a phone number at the hospital, and I'll certainly give that to anyone
here who wants to call, but Dave is still in the Intensive Care wing of the
hospital and is pretty heavily medicated.

As has been mentioned, this really sucks. Candy has to return to her home on
Saturday because she's the wage earner for her family. Dave's mom is 80
years old and isn't really up to the task. At least Candy has enough time
between now and then to layout a path for the near future.
