It still excites me to watch the Derby, Preakness, and the Belmont. I heard the term "overlays" but couldn't quite place it. In craps we have "lay" wagers, not the same as you described, but still an advantage over the house. fwiw, -tom Tom, You apparently aren't that knowledgeable about craps either. Laying a number or laying odds on a "don't come/don't pass" bet gives you no advantage over the house. In the case of laying odds on a "don't come/don't pass" bet, you are simply playing them head to head as they have no advantage on the odds portion of your bet. In the case of laying a number, you pay them (typically 5% of the bet) for the "priviledge" of them having no advantage on that bet. In both cases the payout is exactly equal to the actual odds. It is true that once your point is established, the flat part of your "don't come/don't pass" bet has a slight advantage, but on the initial roll establishing the number for that bet, the house has twice as many ways to win on that roll as you do.( actually they have an 8:3 one roll advantage if they treat 2 or 12 as a push). Bob Weinberger - long time craps (not crappy) student - La Grande, OR Well no Bob, I'm not laying odds on the don't come or don't pass. I'm putting a lay bet on either the 4 or the 10 on the comeout roll. That means I'm betting that the 7 will hit before the 4 or 10 which ever number I lay. Now I realize the lay on either the 4 or 10 pays 1:2, but there are 6 ways to make the 7 as opposed to 3 ways to make the 4 or 10. I don't do this on every comeout, just that I can count the numbers of rolls in my head. Another words, keeping a count on the number of times the 4 or 10 pop up. fwiw, -tom I forgot to add, you can take down the lay bet at anytime. I also put a lay on either the 4 or 10 when I feel a 7 is due, usually that's after the 8th or 9th roll on a short dice system. fwiw, -tom |
