Try looking thru the links on this page: http://www.troutflies.com/links/,
or these websites: http://www.pikeonthefly.com/,
http://www.msu.edu/~connert/pikefly.htm,
http://www.telusplanet.net/public/cn...ike1.htm#flies,
http://members.shaw.ca/clives/pikeflyfish.html,
http://www.hookhack.com/pikeflies.html,
http://www.predator-fishing.co.uk/articles.htm
( I have no connection to either, I just did a Google search).

Pretty good info he
http://www.pikeonthefly.com/index.html

(It's UK-related, but pike don't see international boundaries too well)

There's a lot out there, but this is a good starting place. Catching pike on
the fly is a blast. Spent a week in Minnesota this summer and got a bunch.
Mostly on a tan Dahlberg Diver and a couple on a similar concoction of my
own.

If you have trouble spinning deer hair (it's not too difficult, but the
learning curve is a bit steep, IMO) you can substitute all sorts of foam.
Styro poppers work well, as do neoprene flies.

I suggest you talk to a fly shop (or even the guys at Bass Pro or Cabela's
if you have one nearby) and see what they suggest for your area.

FWIW, I use an TFO TiCr 8 wt with a cheap-ass Pflueger Supreme. Total cost:
about 225, +/-. You can spend a lot less (Bass Pro/Cabela's Specials) or you
can spend a lot more. Others will disagree, but my two cents is that if
you're starting out go with something that isn't the cheapest, but that's
closer to cheap than expensive. IMO, you want a rod that will react well
enough to help you enjoy yourself, not one that will frustrate you. That
costs a couple bucks.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the first time you get a decent pike on a
topwater fly (yeah, I'm a snob...) you'll be...well...here comes the
cliche....hooked.

Have fun,
Dan
