My trolling motor batteries only last about 2 1/2 hours at tops, I have
a 24 volt system, how long should I be able to troll at low- med. speed? with a 65 lbs. thrust motor. Do you think I should get bigger batteries, mine are small everstarts. matthew 4:19 follow me and I will make you fishers of men. |

Check the size of your feed wire, it could be too small. Should be at least

BF. . .you should be able to run that thing 8 hours with a 24 vold system. I
have same and drag my 2K lbs. Champion around for nearly a day and a half with a full charge. I'm not very mechanically minded but there's a few things to check out. Some may sound pretty basic. 1- make sure connects on battery post are clean. Maybe not getting a full charge. check charge with a meter to make sure you are getting them way up. Also make sure no breaks in wires from battery charger. Do you have an on board system? Check charger out as well. Went through same thing this spring. I hate to tell you I replaced battery charger and batteries before I found out a loose connector on end of battery charger wire. Cost me about $400 I didn't need to spend. Sounds basic but that's what burned me. Good luck -- God Bless America Josh The Bad Bear |

I do have an onboard charger, and the indicator lights are green when at
a full charge. I just got home from sears and I looked at bigger batteries, I have 24 and I looked at 29's I think mine might have a bad cell, because I see water comming out the top of one. matthew 4:19 follow me and I will make you fishers of men. |

I had a 24 volt, 65 lb. thrust MinnKota trolling motor and used it for four days on a trip in Canada without charging it. It was fairly weak by the end of four days, but it was still usable. I'm running Group 31 batteries and I've never had a day when I've run out of battery before I ran out energy to fish..... Everstart makes a decent battery, but they have to be sized for the job. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I don't think a Group 31 is an overly large battery, I've got three of them in the aft compartment of my Triton, plus a starting battery. As far as affecting performance, I don't think you'll notice much if any difference. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Group 31, are fine, but lots of boats have battery trays too small for them. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

One of the bigger standard deep cycles. The 24's just do not seem to run that long. My camper came with a grp 24 and would not go a night if any heater blower use. Changed to a Group 31 and runs fine now. You may have a problem with the battery tray fitting a group 21. |
