I am starting up my list (Christmas is coming) for the Western Clave
and I was wondering what is suggested for things like? 1) Fly rods 2) Secret Leader formulas sizes etc. 3) Flies 4) Fly lines 5) Wading shoe soles (I have felt, do we need studs too?) 6) Any other suggestions of equipment & supplies? Chris 'padishar creel' Fanning PS I found a pretty good fly fishing checklist on the web at: http://www.timeoffoutdoors.com/Produ...hecklists.html |

I am starting up my list (Christmas is coming) for the Western Clave and I was wondering what is suggested for things like? 1) Fly rods Great idea! 2) Secret Leader formulas sizes etc. Pssst! Nine foot tapered to 4x plus two or three feet of 5x tippet....but you didn't read it here, ok? Shhhhh....... 3) Flies Bunch of dry ones and some nymphs plus a few streamers. 4) Fly lines If you must. 5) Wading shoe soles (I have felt, do we need studs too?) Bring the shoes with soles attached. There will be altogether too many there who think themselves to be studs. We probably don't need any more, but thanks. 6) Any other suggestions of equipment & supplies? Beer, food, ice, sunglasses, and ear plugs. Danl Chris 'padishar creel' Fanning PS I found a pretty good fly fishing checklist on the web at: http://www.timeoffoutdoors.com/Produ...hecklists.html |

Lots of soot and ash, not much greenery left, but what the heck. If I ever knew what normal was, I might, just might, try to get back to it. Thanks for the note. We need to go see Frenchman's Creek sometime soon. Maybe if it rains a little. Danl |

It's my understanding that the area came through the fire pretty much untouched, and the little look-see trip I took a few weeks ago revealed more fish than I had expected. Good news, all of it. Also, the cooler days that should soon be here make the hike out much nicer :-) Cheers, Bill |

The sunglasses should be extra, EXTRA dark so you don't have to see what other roffians look like. Scared me to death when I saw my first. And don't forget the beer! Glad you're well, Danl. No damnable little spark of a fire gonna keep you down, eh? -- TL, Tim Oh, and beer - lots of beer. http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Chris 'padishar creel' Fanning PS I found a pretty good fly fishing checklist on the web at: http://www.timeoffoutdoors.com/Produ...hecklists.html Chris, Sorry for the sarcasm. Just a bit of fun. Fly Rods: 4 or 5 wt, 9 footer for your primary rod. If you've got a 6 wt, you might bring it for windy days. Oh, and bring your 3 wt for the little streams. No secret leaders as far as I know. Flies: Might I suggest: EHC's, Parachute Adams, Royal Wulffs, Stimulators, Beetles, PMDs, Pheasant Tails (in all their varieties and variations), and little brown mohair streamers. Fly lines: No need for sinkers or sink tips. Felts are fine Other supplies: Sunglasses, ice, beer, a well tuned BFS is a must, one nice bottle of wine, waders, and a vest to hold your stuff so it all gets wet at once. Danl Looking forward to helping you with the wine.... |
