Shore Related

Most folks I know target shore or shore related cover and structure. Any
tips on moving out? I personally have never had much luck going offshore
for bass, and even the couple really good spots I know that seem like open
water spots are actually related to the shore if you take the time to idle
around and graph the entire area.

Great question Bob! I'm a bank beater as well. I rarely fish in more than
12 feet of water. I look forward to the guys answers.

I think you are right about the "related" part. I have had great results
fishing what looked like open water, but it was usually over a rock
pile, old creek channel, or other deep cover. I have monitored suspended
bass in deeper open water on occasion, but have never had much luck
"tricking" them into biting.

I think structure of one kind or the other is the key, it just seems
like it's easier to spot along the bank, but it is also in other
places...just harder to identify if you don't know the topo of the lake.

I have fished your area, and the "banks" got all of my attention there!

I know the kid often drop shots in really deep water at Mead, but I am
sure it is where he has found some sort of structure down there!

Well, I rarely fish for bass in more than 12' of water either... because we
ain't got much water over 12' in the entire lower river.

I look forward to the guys answers.

I've been playing with ideas for summer time bass location relating to
thermocline depth, but that doesn't help much with winter time bass
location.
