My new truck is the first vehicle I've ever had with the silly remote locks
and a chip in the $200!! key that has to be there to start the darn thing My wife came up with the idea, that since while fishing I unintentionally immerse myself a couple times a week in some hat floating version of the FullReid that my new KEY is in danger ... ( I've ruined a couple cell phones ) ..... anybody know if there is any truth to this? she admits that she just made it up, but it seems it could be true? Do I need to find some sort of waterproof key container ? Larry L ( who really doesn't think too highly of all this high tech **** ..... come up with a silicon disrupter and you could hold the whole world hostage ) PS it has a tire pressure sensor thingy that beeped and displayed a warning icon every time I started it ... so I took it to the dealer to check .... the 'mechanic' came out with TWO laptops, a couple wiring harness hookups and magic remote digital air pressure gauges as his 'tools' ... I doubt they have a wrench or screwdriver in the whole damn shop G |

I never take my car squonker with me when I go fishing, I hide it on the car. There are numerous places you can hide your "key", use your imagination. -- Ken Fortenberry |

I doubt they have a wrench or screwdriver in the whole damn shop G Two solutions: 1. A good ziptop baggie. I have used one successfully for car key and camera, and have pulled more that a few Full Reids with no damage (to the camera or the key, that is!). 2. Hide it at your vehicle. A place often used by me is atop one of the tires. They also make a magnetic key holder box (small) that can be attached just about anywhere on your truck. Should be able to find it in any automotive store, or just buy a good magnet and use a small baggie. |

I can say for a fact the Volvo, Ford Explorer, and BMW key fobs still work after a dunking. But would something like this work for you (when you're not towing of course)? http://www.hitchsafe.com/ |

I doubt they have a wrench or screwdriver in the whole damn shop G IME, the key is waterproof, and the remote is, generally, water-resistant. I'd leave the remote and the "main" key in the truck and carry a spare key only if a Reidlike dunking were a possibility. IIRC, you can have a "normal" door key made that will unlock the door, but won't start the vehicle. TC, R |

Assuming you have either a trailer hitch or some other closed, steel loop (towing, tie-down, whatever), get one of these: https://www.hardwareworld.com/Portab...e-pN7NUQ5.aspx I picked mine up at home depot for 20 bucks. Hang it off the safety-chain loop on my trailer hitch. I use it for camping, fishing, races, anytime I don't want to carry a key. Works perfectly. -Dan (People trust their houses to 'em....) |

Why not just put the key in a small zip-lock baggie and put it in your pocket? |

Do I need to find some sort of waterproof key container ?
I have plain jane copies of my house key and my jeep key. I get dog tag chains from the army navy for $1.80, or something. I don't put both keys on one chain - I have a house key chain and a jeep key chain. I can go running, biking, hiking, fishing, whatever, either from the house or the vehicle, and just throw the appropriate chain around my neck and it's all good. If, for some reason, I'm paranoid about getting my neck ripped off, I put the key/chain in a ziploc (the old-fashioned kind, not the kind with the little slider device) and then tuck it into my chest pack. I'm extremely minimalist, I just take a *tiny* chest pack when I fish, and the key/chain is so small that I don't notice the room it takes up. But usually I just wear it around my neck. I leave the regular key set in the jeep. |
