Just found this in a South African fishing site where I lurk. Its a
closed site, so I'll just copy the post here. Much is not new to us, but the end has some updated info. This post was dated Feb 25, 2008. ------------------ Hey Guys Remember 4 years ago there was a fishing show on Supersport on Mnet call Jerk @ both ends and African Angling Safaris with Ari Bert. The show was very successful and more viewers started watching more and more each week. All of a sudden the show stopped and the show disappeared. One day my dad was walking through a shopping center and he sat down on a bench next to a lady. She looked @ my dad and started crying, so my dad hugged her and asked what the matter was and she replied, "My husband was killed in a car accident 2 weeks ago on the way to a shoot". My dad hugged her and said who was he and she said that his name was Chris from African Angling Safari (Ari's best friend). They were on a trip to Zimbabwe to do a tiger fishing shoot and 3 o' clock in the morning, very misty and 4 people in the car including the new recruit to the team which was sleeping. She remembers everything from when they were chatting to when Chris screamed out "WATCH OUT". she remembers the car swearving to the left and to the right, hearing to tyre burst and the car rolling. Chris was killed instantly and the camera man (Niel Moore) died in hospital. The new recruit survived but Ari suffered terrible head injuries. I went to visit him in hospital after the accident and he was in a coma. I've kept in touch with him for 4 years to her his progress and yeaterday i had the chance of meeting my hero. Seeing him was very heart breaking but he has come along way. From a 2 year old boy trapped in a 30 year old mans body. His parents had to teach him how to read, write, speak, walk, memory...etc. 4 years later he can walk, talk, read, write...etc but his speech is broken and is diffecult to understand. Well the thing is that he survived to tell his story and he will be back in a couple of years. Im going to be given updates every week. The thing is that with the memory loss when he was able to walk and do things he still knew how to fish, hows that for ironic. ------------------------------------------------- --riverman |
