While nowhere near as eventful as Drum fishing with Jeff and Joe, a
select group assembled for the last weekend of the season at Clave Central. First off, miraculously it would seem, the place is still standing. Now, for the usual suspects on hand: 1. Mike(Handyman)Shaw. He is looking healthier than ever these days, with a penchant for MUCH more walking than once was the case. The man fairly outruns me. 2. Mike Makela. Nymph fisher extraordinaire, he was bringing fish to hand as well as anyone(and fishing, overall was poor)on smallish stonefly nymphs, fished deep. 3. Bruce Fisher. Ostensibly owns a fly shop somewhere nearby, and was guiding some fine folks from Virginia one day. Bruce is doing well, and still getting some quality fishing time in. 4.Myownself, armed to the gills with large, orange streamers. Most, at the outset, had a complete pair of eyes attached. At any rate, despite some rain on Thursday, the weather was cool and pretty darned windy. Not, to be sure, great fly fishing conditions, and coupled with this, the fish just weren't feeding too eagerly. Despite this, all above caught a few wily Penn's browns, fine food and drink were consumed, and cribbage was played(poorly by myself, others made a better account of themselves). We were made to feel like true Penn's regulars when the waitress at the Sportsmans Club remembered us as the folks who stiffed her back in May(I plead not present), and, remembering what all liked to drink, prior to ordering. The most upbeat fishing discussion revolved around next year's May gathering of the clan, which will be held between May 21 and 29. All ROFFians are welcome, as always. Tom |

I was in Pittsburgh visiting family and attending my 40th high school reunion. I am planning on going up to Hemlock Acres this Friday(10/22) morning and fish until Sunday. I will post my results. I need to winterize too. |
