Greetings all: I'll be foing out to Gig Harbor, Washington at the beginning
of July. Aside from the salmon fishing that will be done, I'd like to spend a day or two chasing trout around. Does anyone have any advise on streams in the area? I'd like to keep within about an hour drive. I know about the rivers at the north end and west side of the Olympic peninsula. I won't have the time or transportation for them. I'd just like to spend a nice day on a stream. Fish size dosen't make much difference to me. Any suggestions? Brian |

Brian I agree, stop by the Morning Hatch in Tacoma for information, but they don't sell licenses. Almost any sporting goods stores sells them. You can also get information from State Fish and Wildlife Anglers Web page at: http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/fishcorn.htm Some rivers to consider at the southern Olympics, such as the Satsop, especially the upper West and Middle forks, and the Wynoochee Rivers. Other close rivers are the Nisqually and Deschutes Rivers, but are often more crowded. The latest flow information is available at: http://wa.water.usgs.gov/nwis_imgs/ http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current?type=flow (statewide) There are separate lists for basins in the state, such as: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current?type=chehalis (Chehalis River basin) Good luck. |

Its rare great trout fishing for the Westside. Also. . . trout are bigger. Watch out for bear and couger :-) Ignore the Hood Canal rivers - they are tricky, and you don't have enuf time to learn enuf to make it worthwhile. Dave |
