Hello All,
It appears that I will have the opportunity to be in Seattle (95% + sure) for the final week of June, and I'll have 2 or 3 full days to myself to wet a line, most likely during the week. It's been years since I've been in Washington state, and, when I started researching the trip, I quickly became overwhelmed by all the fishing possibilities. My preference is for wild fish in moving water that ranges from tiny to medium-sized. I'd much rather spend a day casting (flailing?) to average fish in relative solitude and a beautiful setting than I would standing elbow to elbow on a famous water with a shot at trophies. The setting is a HUGE part of the experience for me! This still leaves me with a bewildering range from which to choose...Cascades (western or eastern, north or south?), Olympics or maybe something I've completely overlooked? I'll have a car, but I'm afraid that hiring a guide isn't in the budget at this time. I'm certainly not asking for any secrets, but if anyone might suggest a region or spot where I could find trouty bliss for a couple of days, I'd be grateful. Cheers, Bill |

Check in with the Washington Fly Fishing website
www.washingtonflyfishing.com. There are a lot of congenial people over there who are very generous with their local knowledge. I'm certain someone there knows of a stretch of water that will suit your needs. Just the same, don't expect anyone to spill the beans on their secret spot. "Bill Mason" wrote in message ... I'm not looking for any secrets but would welcome opinions on general areas. I've been doing some more research, and I've fallen for some of the water on the east side of the Cascades (the Methow near Winthrop in particular). It's looking more and more like I'll be focusing on the rivers in this part of the state. Again, thanks for the link. Cheers, Bill |

Thank you to those who helped me with information for my trip, both here and
by email. You gave me some good places to get started, and I've put together a nice three day tour that will let me fish a good variety of water. I hope I can return the favor some day. Cheers, Bill |

Cheers, Bill There are lots of rivers to choose from, and as they say, timing is everything (day of week), so plan accordingly (meaning weekends are busy). Also, we're experiencing lower than normal streamflows, so adjust the fishing guides accordingly, see: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current?type=flow There are lists for each river basin/region. Also, the State Dept. of Ecoloby has an Angler's Web page at: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishcorn.htm (See the Weekender's Report). Good luck. --Scott-- |

The airline tickets have been purchased and the car rented. I'll be looking for water on the 28-30, so hopefully the crowds will be down a bit from the weekend. I'm happy that you mentioned the low stream flows, as that opens up a number of possibilities I wasn't even considering. Cheers, Bill |
