Jellyfish revisited
The Jellyfish has been evolving rapidly, last few weeks.
Been catching a lot of fish on this fly too (even caught some of the famous "Red Side" Deschutes River Rainbows on this fly, just last week, while taking a break from swingning Steelhead flies. The Jellyfish: 1) Sinks fast 2) Has Mr Twistertail like action in the water 3) Good light-catching flash 4) It's softm si they often bite this fly and hang on, or bite multiple times. 5) Because it's a tube fly, the hook is held at the rear end of the fly, which solves a problem I was having with "short strikes" on an earlier version that was built around a standard wetfly hook. To get the most out of this fly you have to overcome the troutfisherman's arm jerk strike reaction and set the hook with a strip strike, like a bonefisherman does. If you *miss* the strike, lifting the rod tip pulls the fly too far upwards and away from the fish. A short quick (but missed) strip strike leaves the fly in front of the fish. Because the fly is soft and squishy, you may well (often will) get a second hit.... as long as you don't lift the rod tip, that is. |
