Took a buddy of mine Monday to the bay(CBBT) for my first trip out
there to attempt the drum, stripers and whatever else we might could
get to bite. We tried the drum, heard them underneath the boat right
when we set up but it was to late by the time we got our baits in the
water. All we managed were 5 dogfish, one being pretty decent maybe
3.5feet long. So we decided to bounce livebait over the tube, ended up
with one striper there. Bunch of hits thats it. Caught one on storms.
Then the fun begins. We located a school of stripers and started
casting topwater baits to them. We caught our limit with in minutes
the biggest being 33 1/4" all on light tackle. Never caught one under
the size limit most of the fish went 24-26 inches. We did this for
close to 3 hours, non stop action sometimes not every cast but every
couple cast. Numerous doubles were caught. The fish would blow the
baits out of the water, follow them to the boat missing them on the
way in and we even had one jump out of the water like a large mouth
after caught. If I had to guess the amount of fish it would have been
somewhere in the range of 40-50 stripers. The best thing was that we
were the only boat there.
