Not blackflies but black flies.
My friend Joe and I took a couple hour fishing break fom our busy lives yesterday morning. We were hoping to find some tricos. And while we saw a few, we found more BWOs and caddis. The water was in good shape, nice and cool. Especially for a freestone river in Wisconsin in the summer. While we didn't slay them we both caught fish. Joe used the little stuff...emegers, dries and spinners in both BWO and Trico flavors. I tied on a size 14 black cricket. Caught my share on that and on the Pass Lakes that I replaced it with. After I had taken several fish in a row I finally persuaded Joe to tie on a black fly, although he kept in character by making it a black trico. It worked too. The moral is- Fish in the summer see a lot of black bugs in the water. As we left we regaled the woods and sparrows with our version of Sly's "Hot Fun in the Summertime". "Black Flies in the Summertime... Black Flies in the Summertime..." It was one of those Pricelss Moments, like the ones in the credit card commercials.
