Just a short TR about a short trip to Lake Texoma the other day. We have had a
relatively cool summer in North Texas this year, so I was surprised to find the lake not only full due to all the rain this year, but also it was very cool as the water temperature was only 87 degrees. I fished the damn area rocks with the St. Croix 6 weight sal****er rod for a couple of hours and cought a typvcal mixed bag of fish. A couple dozen bluegills., three largmouth, 4 smallmouth(largest about 15 inches), three stripers(largest about 5 pounds) and one channel catfish which gave that rod a workout it was about six pounds. You never can guess what will find your flies when you fish those rocks at the damn. Makes me wonder what I would have found had I had access to the boat. This was the first time I have fished that rod for a couple of years and I must report that I like it a lot. It is a little stiff for bluegill and overall I like the way the Temple Fork Pro better as it gives so much feedback. I think this St. Croix Legend Ultra Sal****er rod will be great for ladyfish and seatrout thou. I was early enough that the wind had not come up too much and it was not hotter n hell yet. Just a couple of hours like this is a great attitude adjustment. Big Dale |
