I guess I just don't get this. I saw another angler fishign a soft jerk
bait and he was able to fish it fast or slow, and it just came through the water straight or with jerks and twitches as fished. I have tried to do that, and it spins and twirls throught the water. What am I missing. -- ** FREE Fishing Lures ** Weekly drawing ** Public Fishing and Boating Forums ** www.YumaBassMan.com |

I have tried to do
that, and it spins and twirls throught the water. What am I missing. The bait has to be straight on the hook - any bends or if the hook is not centered, the bait will spin. You also have to work the bait with your rod tip. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

It may not be as critical with a wider bodied bait like a Bass Assassin, but I know with Fin-S Fish the things have to be dang near perfect. However, powering the twitches and jerks just right can compensate for a slightly off center rigging. You can also try a belly weight to help keel it. Bob, sounds to me like your problem might be an undersized and/or
underweighted hook. The hook acts as a keel on a soft jerkbait, and it's very hard to use too much hook on one. For instance, I'll throw a 5" Superfluke with a 5/0 heavy wire hook. A 3/0 hook on this bait is just too small/light. Try beefing up your hook & I think your problem may be solved. What action rod would you use for it?

What am I missing. As everyone else has already stated, the slightest bend in the bait will cause it to spin. The type of soft jerk bait you use and the type of hook will affect how easy it is to rig properly. I recently tried some Zoom flukes and I don't like them at all. Slug-o's are much easier to rig properly, for me any way. Senko's will also make a pretty fail jerk bait too. -Zimmy |
