My wife gave me a set of pocket knives last night, I must have at least
30 pocket knives "left", I do loose them on a regular bases. For 15 years I sold knives as a hobby (I stopped over 10 years ago), selling around 15,000 dollars worth a year, of every brand, so I know knives. Well she gave me a set of Buck knives, three of them, in a tin box, then she told me she paid $30.00 for the set,, I of course said that could not be, that set should have cost a minimum of $100.00, I then closely inspected the box,, in very small print I found "these knives are made to "Buck" specifications in China" It was like someone just shot my dog. Not her giving me the set of knives,, but they had "Buck" on them . I would have been a thousand times happier if the had "Chinese folders" on the box, and stamped on the blades. For a US company, known for it's quality, a knife you were proud to lend to someone, so they knew you carried a BUCK as your everyday knife, to now be a cheap, near slave labor produced knife,, well, is just disappointing. Of course these knives were bought in the China store, Wal-Mart I just hope they still make Bucks in the US, the "real" Bucks sold in sporting goods stores ????????????? -- SpecTastic Wiggle Rig, Fishing lure remote control See lure video you won't believe http://ezknot.com/videos.html |

I would still be willing to bet that the parts are from China, or another
foreign place, but assembled in US. I don't think there's anything truly 100% US made anymore. It's sad. I used to look for items that said "Made In USA", but somewhere, these things would still have China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or something stamped on them. Anymore, I just look products over and buy the best of the junk, what do you do? Irony, I bought an American flag last year, and it had a sticker on it, saying, "Product of Malaysia". Doug They still tout their plant in Idaho: http://www.buckknives.com/plant_tour.php but they also use foreign manufacturers also: "...we have also sought foreign manufacturing assistance with some product models." "An American flag signifies that the knife is manufactured domestically." http://www.buckknives.com/manufacturing.php MM |

I know how you feel Doug, it does get depressing at times, but cheer up. I know for a fact that Secret Weapon Lures are made in the U.S.A.! And last February, I was talking with David Gray, the president of Ardent Reels. He told me that all of their reels are 100% made in the U.S., right down to the components. Now, are you willing to pay the prices that come along with the tag "Made in the USA?" -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Oh yeah Steve, I'll pay the extra for the "Made In USA" stamp, always have,
and if I have a choice, I will now. Such as with my tools, all craftsman, snap on, or Mac. My OLDER Mitchell reels, with my St. Croix or Loomis rods. (I will admit that I do have an arsenal of Shimano reels though) I always look at the tag before I buy, but it IS unfortunate that sometimes, you don't have a choice. I stay away from Wal-Mart and Harbor Freight at ALL costs. What I don't understand is how we can fuel the Chinese war machine with importing as we do, and then complain how big of a threat they are..... So how's the health Steve? You frozen over up there yet? Got your ice fishing gear out? You get a Half-Track conversion kit for your FastCat yet? ![]() Doug I know how you feel Doug, it does get depressing at times, but cheer up. I too try to avoid Wal-Mart, and I've never bought anything from Harbor Freight, but here in the northwoods, our shopping options are very limited. Like you, I'd much rather buy U.S. made products when ever possible, but sometimes that just doesn't work. Shimano for example makes a great product and I was buying them long before I ever heard of Ardent Reels. So how's the health Steve? You frozen over up there yet? Got your ice fishing gear out? You get a Half-Track conversion kit for your FastCat yet? Oh, we've been froze over for a long time already. I'm beginning to hate my snowblower, but it beats a shovel all to heck. The ice fishing gear is still in mothballs, I'm not done hunting yet. The health is the same, some days good, some days bad. Yesterday morning was a bad one, to the point I almost called 911! -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Gerber is the same way. No longer lifetime and made in China. I was
going back to Buck but if they are China too, guess I'll go Case..
