Default Beginner question

I ordered a fly rod kit from Cabelas. It came with a pack of
multicolored fuzzy things with no hooks and just rubber rings attached
to them. Are these for practice or are you supposed to attached them
together with the fly?

My guess is that they are strike indicators. they loop onto your leader,
about 5 feet above the fly, depending on water depth.

They are strike indicators. They can also be used "practice flies."
What I do when I'm practicing in the yard is tie on a piece of yarn in
place of the fly. That will allow you to see where the fly would land
and additionally, won't snag in the grass.
