Yeah! This is excatly the species I was talking about! I have seen two
names for it:
racoon dog and raccoon dog. It is one of the predators living here in
Finland.

More information: http://www.canids.org/SPPACCTS/raccoond.htm

The hair is in excellent condition at this time of the year, very tight.
Dark colored grey/brownish.

I have not skinned the creature yet but I am going to do it soon.
So, I will have the whole fur available for flytying.

Osmo,

Hope you winter has been fun! Looks like it would make some nice long=20
hairwing streamers for fishing places like - now this is just for=20
example mind - Lais=E4lven. Spare a swatch? :-)

I look forward to seeing a few flies next time...

Vaughan,

I have been thinking! This raccoon dog might be similar with bear hair!
I am not sure yet. Maybe a subsubstitute for bear hair for Nalle Puh,
the famous dry fly from Finland. But I am sure that this will be good
for wing for streamers for trout/salmon.

Hope to get ideas.

You are living rather close to me! I hope to meat you and bring this skin
with
me for finding good solutions for this hair.

Osmo,
I'm not sure what the fishing plans are for this summer - other than to=20
do as much as possible - but hopefully we can cross paths. I have never=20
fished a Nalle Puh but have carried 2 a friend gave me in my fly box for =

5 years. I should give them a swim this spring. I must admit, I did not=20
know the pattern used bear hair.
Let me know what you are up to when you have some plans. At this point=20
Jarmo and I have plans to return to Lais=E4lven late July early August.=20
But this is flexible. I am also toying with the idea of going back to=20
Rostuelva in early July. However, as some of the boys are coming for=20
dinner this Saturday I expect these plans are likely to soon change.

Since you are in the middle of making plans, let me inform you that
the wedding that I have to be at is on the 16th of July. This means
that early July, end of July and early August are all fair game. (I
still suppose early August would be best for Laisan, but have no
objections with other plans.)

My 2wt and 5wt are starting to itch already. :-)

I am still keeping my July open. I still hope that I can join the western
clave
6th to 14th of July. My wife is celebrating her 50th birthday next monday.
I want to take her also to states next summer.

Osmo
